Top 10 Movies to Watch on Thanksgiving

On Thanksgiving Day, after everyone has filled him or herself with turkey and other various delectable foods from the holiday feast we often want to lay back and chill out on a couch for a while. As the tryptophan is working its way through your system these are great movies to pop in and enjoy with family and friends.

  1. National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation- This is my family’s favorite movie to watch on Thanksgiving. The ridiculousness of the movie is awesome yet at the same time very real. My favorite scene from the movie is when the squirrel jumps out of the Christmas tree and all the destruction and insanity that happen directly after.
  2. Addams Family Values- You need to watch this movie just to see the scene where Pugsly and Wednesday are acting in the camp’s musical about the first Thanksgiving.
  3. The Doors- Val Kilmer’s portrayal of Jim Morrison in this Oliver Stone movie is spot on. This movie is great if you are having friends over, but I wouldn’t necessarily suggest it if there will be children. And to top it all off there is a Thanksgiving scene in it as well.
  4. A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving- The best movie about Thanksgiving out there. I highly suggest watching this movie, as well as It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown for Halloween and A Charlie Brown Christmas for the Christmas holidays.
  5. Planes, Train, and Automobiles- A funny John Hughes movie about a man who just wants to get home for Thanksgiving. John Candy and Steve Martin star in it, so you know it has to be good.
  6. Home for the Holidays- This movie is a hilarious family comedy with a star studded cast.
  7. Holiday Inn- A wonderful black and white holiday movie starring Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire. Beautiful costumes, wonderful dancing, and songs by Irving Berlin make this movie a must see!
  8. Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory- Another movie that is a favorite with my family (well, at least with all of us grandkids).
  9. Kung Fu Hustle- A cartoony fun movie from Hong Kong film master Stephen Chow. This movie has jaw dropping fight scenes, fun dance sequences, and to top it all of it is a hilarious comedy! The movie is definitely something the whole family can enjoy.
  10. The Muppets take Manhattan- Another movie that can be enjoyed by young and old alike.
